Our honeymoon in September is coming up fast, and I am in the mid stages of planning. We%26#39;re going to do the typical Kauai activities, i.e. hiking, biking, boat cruises, snorkeling, plenty of time at the beach, etc.
So, my question is, are there any of these activities that would definitely be better or worse on weekend or weekday. Or are differences marginal, especially because it is off season?
We%26#39;re staying in Poi%26#39;pu area btw (Waikomo Streams) but will also make a trip (or two) to the north coast.
Thanks for all your help, I%26#39;ve been researching for months to get this perfect... er as perfect as can be!
Weekends vs Weekdays
For the most part maginal. The exception might be the beaches since the locals who work might tend to go weekends rather than week days.
Weekends vs Weekdays
Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!
I wouldn%26#39;t worry much about weekends or weekdays except for (as already said) the beaches being more crowded on the weekends with local folks enjoying their weekend off. But most times the popular beaches for residents aren%26#39;t necessarily the popular ones for the visitors - so not much to worry about there either!
The other activities, helicopters, boat tours, are not things that folks that live here do on a normal basis -- hiking and snorkeling are popular, but not to the extent that you%26#39;d need to be concerned about anything being crowded.
Just a question: have you spoken with the folks at Waikomo Stream Villas about the construction immediately behind and to the side of the property? I hope that they are putting you in a unit that would be the furthest away from it. Just making sure!
Malama Pono,
Janet
Thanks for the info.
Janet, yes, the construction. I was aware that it was happening, but have not spoken directly to Waikomo Streams about it, though they did send me an FYI email a few weeks ago.
As for our unit, well the wife to be picked it out specifically for some of its features, and the short of it is that she%26#39;s in love with it ;-) For now, we don%26#39;t have plans to request a change as we%26#39;ve also been told that the construction runs roughly 7-4pm and we figure most of the days we%26#39;ll be out and about. HOWEVER, I%26#39;d be lying if I said it hasn%26#39;t been a slight concern in the back of my mind.
Someone from this board also give me some info as she recently stayed there - I gathered it didn%26#39;t ruin their stay.
Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!
No, it very much depends on you as to how much it will affect you.
This is a quote from a post from yesterday on the ';Construction in October'; thread from ';bhc2';.
';I just got back from my stay on bee-you-tee-full Kauai at Waikomo Streams Villa late May.
The island and the beaches were all I could ask for. Gorgeous!
Not so pleasant was the construction directly across the parking lot. (My villa door opened directly to the parking lot.) The first day of my 5 day stay, the construction equipment was loud and noisy. The vehicles were constantly backing up and the beeping noise that accompanies it was annoying. This kept up until about 5 pm, quitting time.
The next morning I woke up at about 8 am to the same grinding and beeping noises. This lasted a couple of hours.
Then I am happy to report that there was no more obvious construction noise for the rest of my stay. There was some construction noise, but it was not as jarring or loud as the first day. I was in and out of the villa during various parts of the day and did not notice anymore extreme construction noise. (The roosters were another issue. :-)
So I would say that if you were out and about the island during normal business hours, then you will not be disturbed by the noise.
And if you are in the area during normal business hours, then I hope you are luck enough to get a quieter day.';
This give you a more direct perspective from someone who stayed there just recently -- didn%26#39;t know if you might have read it or not, but thought it would be worthwhile just for your information.
Everyone is different -- some folks don%26#39;t care at all about construction activity being around them -- some visitors hate it.
I wish you a lovely trip to our beautiful island!
Malama Pono,
Janet
Janet, thanks much, I had not seen that post. It makes me feel much better.
As a lifelong Chicagoan, construction noise has been such a constant that I hardly notice it anymore. It%26#39;s just background/white noise to me at this point.
Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!
Glad to have been of some help! And see, you are one of the folks that the construction noise will probably be as you said ';white noise'; in the background -- so I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll have a great time!
You can still walk down Ho%26#39;onani Road on the small walking path from the Waikomo Stream Villas to watch the green sea turtles -- you just have to be a little more aware of the traffic, since the detour for the road construction goes down Ho%26#39;onani -- but it is still a lovely walk along the ocean! And to view the sunset!
Have a lovely time!
Malama Pono,
Janet
P.S. -- there is a home just down the street on the mauka side of Ho%26#39;onani Road where they have a ';honor system'; for purchasing fresh fruits from their garden -- looks like mangos and papayas lately -- great for your breakfast and 1/2 block away!
