Trying to find a great rental car rate, possibly a convert.

I still have 4 months but I am looking to find a really great deal on a rental car for 10 days. I tried looking at Priceline but they are pretty high especially on convertibles. I am looking for rates from Sept 26th through Oct. 5th. If anyone finds a good deal can they let me know! Thanks, Joe.

Costco in Sacto?

I dont have a membership to Costco, I assume I need one.

Kayak.com or Priceline.com

Joe - Unless you have a big family or shop in quantity, Costco membership might not be worth the $45.00/year membership fee. There is, however, a Costco on Kauai so you can shop for food and/or wine/liquor and buy gas a few cents cheaper after you have joined to get a break on a rental car.

Check sidestep.com for car rental rates among about five of the well-known agencies on the island.

Check to see if one of your credit cards is advertising a discount coupon or discount code number for an onlline reservation.

will do guys. thanks for the help!

Joe--check to see if you belong to any groups that have discount agreements. Professional organizations, AAA, even some credit cards have them. I just reserved for June using a Sam%26#39;s discount and got a good deal. This has the additional benefit of being able to make changes if you need to. I think you%26#39;re locked in with Priceline. There may be less discounting for convertibles %26amp; SUVs than for regular passenger cars. Good luck!

Joe...just curious, so I went to www.hotwire.com and found what looks like a Mustang convertible for $226.00 for five days (just used 10/9 to 10/13 for the sake of experiment) and was quoted $226.00 including taxes. They do not tell you what car rental company until you lock in, could be Hertz, Avis, Alamo, Thrifty, Budget, National...all well-known companies. Rates at sidestep.com were all between $360-$385.

The only hesitation I have had with hotwire.com is that you are locked in once you confirm...no wiggle room or easy out. Secondly, I have had the experience where in planning ahead and reserving a vehicle, the rental car company had a sale just before I was leaving and a better rate than the hotwire rate...that would have been a lucky circumstance, however.

Joe,

We used Costco and got a great deal. Make sure you keep checking with whichever company you use. I know for us a mid-size SUV for 2 weeks was anywhere from $285 (with all fees and taxes) when I booked it about 2 months before we left to nearly $600 at other times I checked, both before and after that. The nice thing is that I could merely cancel one reservation and book another when the prices went down - that%26#39;s the drawback with priceline and hotwire since you%26#39;re locked in with them.

have a look at cheaptickets.com pretty good rates with all the major car rental companies and no prepayment

Try discounthawaiicarrentals to see what rate they%26#39;ll have. They are generally competitive.

I%26#39;ve never rented w/Costco, although I am a member. I am a one-person household and I%26#39;ve found that the few things I buy there (tires, cheese, produce, bottled water) more than save me the membership fee I pay ... depends on if you have one close to you and will use it, I guess.
