Suggestions for new things to see/do

Well, a friend of mine is trying to burn up some Hilton points and an airline ticket so I am sacrificing :-) and going to spend a week with her at the Grand Wailea ... apparently part of the Hilton group these days. Not exactly my scene but I think I can enjoy it for a few days, for sure! We%26#39;ll probably spend a couple of days by the pool/beach, but am looking for other things to do in the area ... I have been to Maui many times and have done most of the touristy stuff ... hoping to do Iao valley this time as I%26#39;ve never been there ... also explore Makawao and go to Komoda bakery, which was closed the last week of April!! Other than that, any suggestions for exploring, hiking, unique shopping around Kihei and Wailea? (We%26#39;ll be there in early Fall ..) Thanks!!!

You poor dear. Slumming it at the GW. I feel for you. I would enjoy a short hike to la Perouse Bay and maybe a longer walk down the Kings Highway. You%26#39;ll need actual shoes to do this walk and about a quart of water. It is pretty warm and unprotected by trees most of the way but it has its rewards. And you%26#39;ll get some extreme winds and a view of the Big Island when you get to the south end.

Such a sacrifice... I guess that the real sacrifice will be flying all the way from Alabama to Maui and only staying for a single week!

There is a place that you can hike and explore that is nearby to the Grand Wailea. You will have to pace yourself or you will tire yourself out early in the day, but don%26#39;t worry, there are benches and places for refreshments along the way........ the Shop at Wailea!

If you haven%26#39;t been to Mulligan%26#39;son the Blue, check out who%26#39;s playing Wailea Nights or just go up for jazz or celtic on other nights. If you haven%26#39; t walked the Kam beaches in Kihei, thats fun with tide pools and all. Enjoy and don%26#39;t forget the report.

Thanks -- all great suggestions that I will put on my list. I know, staying for only a week is a bummer, but I%26#39;ve done it a lot before. I was sort of limited to either buying a ticket or using miles and taking the days I could get ... which was any Wednesday during September!

Shanty, what is Wailea Nights? Local people? Glad to know about the jazz .. we may have to check out mulligans more than once.

How about Java Jazz in Honokawai?

Wailea nights is a combo 3 course dinner and caberet style performance by Eric Gilliom and Barry Flannagan of Hapa. Not sure they are there all the time. You might want to e-mail them and ask on their (Mulligan%26#39;s) website. Barry and Eric had a lovely hula dancer for several numbers. The room is not very big so it feels very intimate and in-formal and you should see Barry play the guitar.

A few more questions for you Shanty, if you%26#39;re still following ... I looked at Wailea nights and we are definitely up for it.

Their Web site says dinner seating starts at 5:45 ... but can you go at say, 7? (Show is at 8). We get in on Sat afternoon and have to get luggage, car, etc. We might be able to switch flights but I bought a couple of the $9 tickets so who knows ... we might have to sit on the wing!

Also any idea of cost?
