I%26#39;m looking for a shared, dea sea fishing charter. We%26#39;re looking to go out of the Kailua-Kona area, but are willing to make the trip for a better boat. Who should I consider, and who should I avoid. Mahalo!

If I ever go I would choose Captain Jeff. I can%26#39;t speak personally about him, but I have always heard good reports.

I鈥檓 interested in sharing a full day charter on April 24th. There would be myself, my 26 year old son and my 21 year old daughter. I%26#39;ve already emailed Captain Jeff see if anything is available and what the costs would be? We are in Kona from April 15th to April 27th.

don%26#39;t fish but have met many who do on the Big Island and wanted to let you know that unless otherwised arranged in advance, the boat customarily keeps the fish. If you want to keep your fish, or a portion, you need to find a boat that will make this kind of arrangement.
We just returned from Kona area, and the men in my family used
Camelot Fishing Charters.
Family owned boat and captains Rob and Son Mark were great to work with. Mark was their captain for the 1/2 day charter and knew the area very well.
They landed 3 fish and ended up catching one 28lb Black Fin Tuna. Camelot lets you keep 1/2 of the fish you catch, so we had grilled Tuna one afternoon. Yum!
Many boats keep the fish - in Hawaii, the fish is owned by the boat.
Anyhow, you can find them at www.Camelotsportfishing.com
Pics, phone numbers, email, etc.
Aloha,
I don%26#39;t fish either but my husband occasionally goes out with friends.
Yes the boat does own the fish unless you pre arrange things.
I guess summer is good fishing!
He had good things to say about Captain Jeff.
Most boats go out of Honokohau Harbor, about 10 mins from Kona if there is no traffic.
It might be smart to ask if they are US Coast Guard licensed Captains
Hello! We are also exploring the option of shared charter for deep sea fishing. Any more suggestions/comments on any of the companies that operate out there. We would really like a professional service on a reliable boat.
Thanks
I have always been impressed with Sportfish Hawaii. http://www.sportfishhawaii.com/index.htm Let them know what you are looking for and they will find the perfect boat/crew for you. I am partial to Capt. Kent aboard the Fish Wish. You can keep the fish that you want except for billfish. For those, he will tag the fish then give you a card to fill out and mail to the International Game Fish Association. The card will associate the fish%26#39;s tag number with you making the fish ';yours.'; The next time someone catches your fish, they pull your tag, retag it with a new one, then send the info to the IGFA. You will get a card from the IGFA telling you where and when it was caught. All done in the name of conservation. I am booking a trip with him for next March as we speak.
I went fishing with sea wife charters in the middle of April and had a great time. I went just my self and they hooked me up with 3 other people. It was very in expensive for 4 hours $80. They did not supply food or drink but allowed us to bring our own coolers. They did supply the fishing gear and bait. For 4 hours of fishing we caught 3 fish so I cannot complain at all. It was well worth it we all had a great time.
