It%26#39;s our honeymoon and I love Japanese food (even though I%26#39;m deprived of the %26#39;good stuff%26#39; here in Iowa). I%26#39;m wanting to go out one night and have a great Japanese night out --- sushi, sake, the works. Where is the best Japanese restaurant - either in the Waikiki or Kaanapali areas? We%26#39;re more flexible while in Maui since we%26#39;ll have a car - but where is a must as far as Japanese cuisine is concerned?
Japanese restaurant
We love Sansei in Kapalua. I understand that they also have a restaurant in Kihei. Rachel Ray went there for one of her programs. We try and go 3 times in an 8 day vacation, and we have a lot of sushi restaurants here in L.A.
Japanese restaurant
Having only been to three Japanese restaurants on Maui, I can%26#39;t say it%26#39;s the best on the island, but we sure like Sansei%26#39;s. Two locations; Kapalua being the closest to the Kaanapali area.
same...Sansei...
Sansei in Kapalua. It was so good my husband threatened to quit cooking after eating there since it was so good compared to his cooking.
We think the sushi at the Hakone in Maui Prince is superb. Call and find out if Ivan Bersamin (sushi chef) is still there--if so, get him to make his special rolls for you!!! He is at the sushi bar, not the buffet.

We loved Sansei as well.
the locals only go to Sansei for the most aprt if it is 50% off. It is for beginners to sushi. Sushi Paradise is where the locals go. Also Kincha is god at the Grand Wailea and the sushi place at the Ritz Carlton.
Sushi Sasabune is probably the best sushi place on Oahu. It%26#39;s not in Waikiki - about 10 minutes from it. But if you have a car, it%26#39;s doable. Also, in this place, the chef will create a menu for you. So hopefully, you%26#39;re game for all kinds of sushi. And, just a warning, it%26#39;s kind of on the expensive side but well worth it if you%26#39;re a sushi snob. ; )

if you are staying on Kaanapali beach [or even if you aren%26#39;t you could drive there ] our favorite sushi bar is called Nalu, Sunset Bar. It is at the old Marriot. It sits right one the beach. It is the best view I have ever had from a sushi place! We go there at least 3-4 times during our two week stays. We stay at the Whaler on Kaanapali so it is a perfect walk. They open and 5pm and have a happy hour from 5-6 pm.
Do any of these restaurants have the habachi grill cooking?? Like at Benihana%26#39;s or other japanese Steakhouses? We don%26#39;t really like sushi but enjoy watching the chefs at the grill table places..will also be staying in the Kannapali area at the Whaler
