Kihei & Live Music

So, as a musician, one of the things I love to do is scope out the local musical talent. Any locals or other seasoned travelers have any places they know of (can be a bar, because I have a sitter for a few evenings) were some good local bands play at? I love all types of music (rap being the only think I won%26#39;t listen to). Any ideas?

I am staying in the Kihei area, so if there is anything close by, that would be great.

Friday night check out Lawa at the former Boccalino%26#39;s in the Azeka Shopping Center. It is now called Tipups, but you%26#39;ll find few who will actually say the name because it makes no sense on Maui. Apparently a tip up is an ice fishing thing. No one here gets it??? (The guys call the place Titsup, of course.) But Lawa is an incredible original band fusing local/jazz/eclectic styles. All very talented, hot, tight rhythm section, and Keala the singer has some pipes! Plus, Pete (guitar) is very easy on the eyes! lol

Monday night happy hour ( 5-7) at the Tiki Lounge, Kanoa from Go-Mega. Incredibly entertaining, amazing talent. Kids are OK for this, since it is on the lanai at dinner time. have a hot dog while you are there, or the pizza. The pizza is great. Later on Mondays is a perrenial local favorite, Crazy Fingers. For me they are tired, been there, done that kind of thing.

Sunday afternoons at Henry%26#39;s there is Gina Martinelli. Great talent, Maui icon, fun band, local dive bar.

At Mulligan%26#39;s every night is great entertainment (except Wed) . Tonight we are going early to catch Benoit Jazz Works, but Mondays are great too with Gypsy Pacific.

Grab a MauiTime Magazine to see who else might be playing that week.

Mahalo! Printing this page out and I shall look forward to this!

Great download, Kai!

Are you similarly knowledgable about local music venues in West Maui? Would love to know.

Don%26#39;t miss the weekly slack key guitar concerts. Used to be at the Ritz, but it%26#39;s moving to Napili Kai. That%26#39;s a long drive from Kihei, but the music is unforgettable. Not cheap, but unforgettable.
