What (if any) car rental companies are actually located on the premises of the airport. In other words, are there any car rental companies that I do not have to hop on a shuttle in order to pick up the car?
On site car rental companies at KOA
Aloha,
Sadly not. They used to have the car rentals set up right across the front road so you could walk to them but after 911 they moved them. The shuttle rides are very short, 5 mins and they run very regular.

Thank you. Which car companies are closest to the airport?
They are all on the same ';block'; about 1/2 mile up the hill.
I do not think one is ';faster'; or closer to another.
If you can just send one person to pick up your bags and one person to head immediately to the rental car shuttle. This will usually save quite a bit of time.
I think maybe Hertz is the tiniest bit most convenient, but the difference is negligible. KOA is actually a pretty small international airport, however, so it%26#39;s not a huge trek to any of them, like in some big city airports.
Which car rental company are you going to use?
I%26#39;ve found alamo to be the cheapest. It time-wise it really doesn%26#39;t matter which company you use, you have to take a shuttle just up the road. The Kona airport is so small and easy to get around. The shuttles are constantly circling and picking up people. It%26#39;s probably the easiest airport you%26#39;ll ever go through.
For the most part, the differences are negligible between the different rental companies, especially for location. As someone mentioned, the best bet is to divide and conquer, this potentially can save a ton of time. I also use Priceline or Hotwire and have never been disappointed in over a dozen rentals at KOA and ITO. The more $ saved on car rentals usually means the more I have for fun stuff on vacation!
Good luck and happy travels!
