Oahu vs. Maui

I am going to Hawaii next March with my 3 sisters and I have asked a lot of questions but I still need more help please. We are thinking about staying 8 nights at the Outrigger Waikiki. This is what I would like to do there. Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Polynesian Cultural Center and the Circle Island Tour plus go to the swap meet. I think it may take us 8 days to get this all done without rushing. Then I would like us to go to Maui and stay at the Mahana for 6 nights and do the road to Hana and to a Luau in Lahaina. We will not be doing any snorkeling or hiking so I thought that 6 days in Maui may be enough. Maybe I am missing a lot to do in Maui and should only stay 7 in Oahu and 7 in Maui Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Everyone says Maui is the best Island but it seems there is so much more to do in Oahu. Thanks

Oahu vs. Maui

I think you%26#39;re on the right track with your itinerary - you%26#39;re right, Oahu has so much to see %26amp; do. Maui is nice - I%26#39;ve been there many times, but it%26#39;s a very different place than Oahu, IMO. Oahu is and always has been my hands sown favorite for many reasons. It all depends on personal preferences and what you%26#39;re looking for. It%26#39;s good that you%26#39;re allowing yourself plenty of time - rushing just isn%26#39;t something you want to do in Hawaii. Be sure not to overbook yourselves on either island and take plenty of time to just sit back, relax and enjoy the islands.

Oahu vs. Maui

It really does depend on your preferences, but GENERALLY speaking, Oahu does have more to see and do than Maui. Oahu has all the ';tourist attractions';, like Pearl Harbor, PCC, Diamond Head, Waikiki Beach, North Shore, Hanauma Bay, etc., etc. Which is why I always recommend first timers to Hawaii to go to Oahu.

I think a week each would be good. You will also get a better rate on a condo if you book for 7 nights.

I don%26#39;t think 1 day either way really matters. I personally think there is a lot more to do on Oahu. But like both islands very much. I%26#39;d add some extra time in Lahaina, to see the historic town, besides just going to a luau. There%26#39;s loads of fun restaurants and shops.

I%26#39;m not sure who ';everyone'; is, but I%26#39;ll disagree that Maui%26#39;s the ';best island'; -haha.

Maybe you should do two weeks on Oahu and two weeks on Maui... that way you wont be rushed at all.

8 days is plenty in Oahu- you can pretty much spend a day on each of the following- the best of oahu--

-*Northshore-visit Waimea Bay, snorkel in Sharks cove and watch the sunset at Sunset Beach (all of the beaches are right next to eachother) (get an early start and you can stop at Dole and Haleiwa (eat at Giovannis shrimp truck in Haleiwa) on the way there)

-*Kailua/Lanakai beach- this is what you see in pictures of paradise- white sand blue green waters-most beautiful beach in Oahu

-Visit the Poly Cult Center- stay for the Luau

-Swap meet is great for gifts (you only need a couple of hours here)- skip buying anything at the international marketplace, which is more expensive. Also some great keepsakes can be found at the ABC stores

-If you want another beautiful site go to Hanauma Bay- but snorkeling is only good on a clear sunny/calm day (north shore snorkeling is better)

-Pearl Harbor- Arizona-you need to be there early (like 7:30 a.m.) you will be done by noon maybe schedule the swap meet and this on the same day since they are right down the street from eachother

-If you are into hiking-the hike to Maunawili waterfall is pretty cool-through the jungle and there is a pool at the bottom of the 12 foot cliff waterfall for swimming and jumping

-visit waikiki beach but dont spend more than a day at this beach because the island has so much more to offer and it gets crowded

i would suggest doing as much as possible while you are there and not spend time laying around in the room save diamond head for last if you dont get to it its not that big of a deal have fun!!
