We will be in Oahu Nov29-Dec 6. Any chance we might get into
Sharks Cove for some scuba/snorkel. We have been to Oahu many, many times, but never this late in the season.
Sharks Cove
flippr5657: that time of year Shark%26#39;s Cove will more than likely be unavailable due to the high surf on the North Shore. Check conditions, you might get lucky. If you do go arrive early (before 9:00) on a weekday. You can rent snorkel sets across the street for $5. The snorkeling is great (I saw as much sealife there in 45 minutes as I saw at Hanauma Bay). Hanauma Bay is your best bet if Shark%26#39;s Cove doesn%26#39;t work out. If you arrive early (like 6:00 AM) you park and get in for free! That%26#39;s beause while the gates open, the parking booth and entrane booths aren%26#39;t manned until 7:00. Usually the only people there that early are the treasure hunters with their metal detectors. Hope this helps.
Sharks Cove
I can%26#39;t imagine sharks%26#39;cove being too safe that time of year, but if I were you, I%26#39;d take a trip around the island, then stop there and survey the conditions, because you never know!
Along with Haunama, many people have recommended going out to one of the lagoons at KoOlina- I think some have said the 3rd one is best??? If you swim out a little towards the coral you can see a good quotient of fish.
I really wouldn%26#39;t even attempt it. Even if it doesn%26#39;t look ';big'; there could still be nasty currents, and I don%26#39;t remember there being any lifeguards near the snorkeling area to ask.
Don%26#39;t bother snorkeling at Ko Olina, not worth it. It%26#39;s great for kids, but you see nothing compared to Hanauma Bay.
thanx for the info... Sharks Cove is one of my favorite dives.. Good tip about Hanauma!! We will check it out!! The last few times we tried to get into Hanauma..we couldn%26#39;t even get into the parking lot!!
Are they still open later on Saturdays? Maybe a night dive....hmmm
Can you still get to the toilet bowl? Saw a couple of crazy marines slipping down into a hole right in front of the bowl, and reappearing in the ocean. Scared the #$#@ out of us!!!
Even the locals were shaking their heads..
I have a question for anyone....How far of a drive is it from Honolulu to sharks Cove? Thanks
