Purple trees in bloom??

Can any one tell me what the trees are called that are currently blooming in purple? We saw lots of these trees the way down from Haleakala and were mesmerized by the color. There was a huge one in bloom at the Kula Lodge.

Just curious as to what they are.

They sure are beautiful and add interest to photoghraphs. People always ask when they see them in a picture.

Jacarandas are my favorite. Our street is lined with them. So beautiful.

yes they ARE jacaranda..I love them..but it is too cold to grow them where we Iive :(

Definitely Jacarandas and definitely NOT native. I believe that they are native to South America or somewhere like dat ....

They are exploding upcountry something fierce :)

Not sure where you saw the orange flowering trees but possibly you saw ';African Tulip'; trees. They have large cup like flowers that are a brilliant deep orange color. Not native and we have a zillion of them.

If you saw a tree with deep yellow/gold flowers (almost like harvest gold appliances!!) near the Jacaranda trees on Maui you saw a ';Silver Oak'; tree. Non- native also. The ';flowers'; are odd sort of long spikey things that look sort of unreal.

There are other trees with orange flowers but those two are the most common.

Ok, African tulip is what we saw. A deep orange colored bloom. Very pretty. I%26#39;ve seen these in bloom on Kauai as well but just never knew what they were.

Seeing the jacaranda blooms were a first that I can remember. Awesome color. Reminds me of the movie What Dreams May Come.

Jacarandas... A common sight here in Southern California. Beautiful when in bloom but a super messy landscape tree.
