September Wedding leis near diamond head end?

I%26#39;m hoping one of the current locals can help out with this one, but we used to live just outside of Waikiki between Kapiolani Park and the entrance to Diamond Head. Just down the street was this little store that called itself a grocery, but they handmade lei and had some really gorgeous ones (flower hair combs, too). I%26#39;m pretty sure this is their contact info:

Service Grocery

(808) 734-2687 3124 Monsarrat Ave

Honolulu, HI

If you%26#39;ll have a car you could drive up there in a couple minutes, or if you walked it would be about 20 minutes each way from the Diamond Head end of Waikiki. But keep in mind I haven%26#39;t lived there in a couple years so they may very well be closed, but they%26#39;re still listed on a few florist sites.

Thanks so much doesnt seem to be much info on this. i dont know if they have a website you can order from but i will try to find it. Its difficult to phone with the time difference if you find the site please let me know thanks again. Twiggs.

Hi Twiggs. We just got back from our own wedding a few days ago. I miss Hawaii. Sigh...... You are going to have the most amazing time. Anyway I know that you are looking for somewhere near to Diamond Head but I thought I just tell you where we got ours from. We used Lita%26#39;s leis in Chinatown on Beretania St. Tel: 808 521 9065. I know with the time difference phoning can be difficult but we found that if you call in the evening UK time you should be OK. The ladies were lovely and the leis were great. I don%26#39;t know how early your wedding is but the bus service starts running at 7am (soooo impressed with the buses ). Hubby went to pick ours up at 9am but our wedding wasn%26#39;t until 3pm so we simply stored them in the hotel fridge and they were fine. Some flowers keep better than others though so have a chat with whoever you choose about that. We had carnations and tuberose for our guests, kukui nut, leaf and tuberose for hubby and a spiral orchid one for me. If you want to PM me with your email address I can sent you pics. I did however order my bouquet through the the coordinator just in case but I%26#39;m sure that you could get that from there as well if you wanted to.

Twiggs. Just had a thought when I read the reply below. Walmart which is just the other side of Ala Moana Shopping centre has a small selection in a fridge at the front of the store. They always seemed to have the kukui nut and leaf leis that might be suitable for your groom at around $18 and the single purple orchid leis at around $5 each if I remember correctly. I think I%26#39;m also correct in saying that Walmart is open 24 hours. Maybe if that%26#39;s wrong someone could correct me on that ?

Walmart would be a good option actually. I can%26#39;t remember if its a 24 hour store or not though.

There would be no problem with getting your leis the day before if you have a fridge. They keep for days anyway. In fact, you would probably not need to refridgerate them if the wedding is early. Makes your room smell wonderful! Chinatown is the best price for leis but if you can get them at Walmart for $5.00 that is comparable.

You%26#39;re not going to find a web site or probably much more inforation about the grocery place I mentioned. It%26#39;s really small and it%26#39;s literally just the family sitting in the store making lei, but we bought several there and they had beautiful stuff. If you have a day or two before your wedding and you%26#39;re still interested in it, I%26#39;d just head up there during the day and see who%26#39;s around and talk to them. If you%26#39;re on the DH end of Waikiki it will be closer than WalMart or Chinatown.

I couldn%26#39;t find web sites for any of the small florists around Waikiki or even Chinatown? If you%26#39;re tight on time and really would like to order ahead on-line, here%26#39;s a website from a guy in Kapolei who delivers. I don%26#39;t know about his quality or cost, but there%26#39;s lots of pictures of the different flowers, colors and styles.

Watanabe florists in Honolulu also have a website with some leis and are closer for delivery, but not as easy for you to pick up as in Waikiki or even China Town.

You can also just use the links to get a feel for the names of the different styles, then phone one of the ';no-web'; recommended florists closeby or who delivers.

I like this place in China Town:

Cindy%26#39;s Lei Shop (no Web site)

1034 Maunakea Street

Chinatown, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii

Phone: 808-536-6538

I vote for Cindy%26#39;s Lei Shop on Maunakea St near the corner of King St..........much better selection than the last time I was in WalMart.

If you are buying several you can bargain a little on the price. There is a Municiple Parking Lot right next door to Cindy%26#39;s and the buses all run on King St. less than 1/2 block away.

Hi everyone thanks so much for the info as we are only getting there a couple of days before it might be to near to the day to get them when we arrive unless anyone else knows otherwise!! But i will look on the sites above %26amp; keep my fingers crossed as i could not find web sites either %26amp; with the time difference %26amp; the fact that its going to be a secret from everyone it makes it difficult unless i can book it online thats why its a bit complicated! Any more advice is truly welcome thanks everyone
