Where to go for 15th anniversary? Been to Maui. Kauai next?

I need advice on a great place to take my lovely wife for our 15th anniversary in February %26#39;08. We usually spend our anniversary on a Caribbean island, and that%26#39;s still a possibility. (If you%26#39;re familiar with the Caribbean, we%26#39;re considering Anse Chastenet on St. Lucia, Biras Creek on Virgin Gorda, and maybe Petit St. Vincent.)

But we%26#39;re also considering going back to Hawaii. We were on Oahu and Maui back in September %26#39;06 and loved Maui -- would go back there, but I%26#39;m thinking we need to see another island and thoughts turn to Kauai.

For this trip, we need a first-rate hotel (no condos this time -- she doesn%26#39;t want to spend time cooking and cleaning) with a good beach and good snorkeling. Ideally, it would be a small, quiet, elegant, romantic resort (a spa would be a nice extra), with access to good restaurants.

Any place on Kauai fit that bill? Would another island be a better choice? Any advice is appreciated.

Sounds like Princeville Resort is what you might like. It is on the North Shore. It has a dop dead gorgeous view of Hanalei Bay.Princeville is a more ';Rich'; feel.$400 a night and up^^^

South shore maybe the Hyatt or Marriott may be your taste...

Wow ! We have skipper boats to all of the caribbean islands that you just talked about. Biras Creek in Virgin Gorda sound, St. Lucia, where we picked up or vessel to sail the windards and grenadines, and Petit St. Vincent, which was our futhest point south before heading back to Marigot Bay, St. Lucia.

Also sailed the bahamas, BVI ( 7 times), St. Barts, Anguilla, and St. Martin, as well as St. Lucia to Bequia, Tobago Keys, Palm Island, and Petit St. Vincent. All were great fun, but.....................................

Personally, I we would pick KAUAI.

Why: One thing that bothered me on St. Lucia, was the poverty that is so very prevelent. Now, Marrigot bay, where the boat was based was really beautiful....

Biras Creek, Virgin Gorda would have more activities for you, than St. Lucia, plus you also have Bitter End resort near you. Lots of activities that all sorround sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling. No to mention a '; Pain Killer '; or two.

Peitit ST. Vincent is really small, we walked around the island, very leisurely in a bit more than an hour. Really tiny.

Kauai, on the other hand, has many, many different micro climates, and plenty of things to do.

Beaches for snorkeling, , boogie boarding , diving and getting some sun.

Rivers to kayak, and some you can kayak, and hike to secluded water falls. All different experiences.

Great trails for hiking up in Kokee, from easy to moderate, with different views and vegetation. Other wonderful trails on the east shore, and of course hanakapiai on the north shore.

Quaint small villages ( towns ), on all of the shores, and different venues at each. browsing, shopping and eating and drinking.

Then of course lots of activities , with horseback or ATV riding, boat tours along the Napali, zip lining, golf, tennis, helo or fixed wing cirlcle island tours, scuba DIVING etc., etc.

Lots of beauty no matter where you look, and friendly people.

You choice of course, since I do not know what motivates you.

Frist rate hotel on a beach.....a couple of ideas...south shore :.THE HYATT,( non- swimmng ) or the SHERATON, with easy access to swimming and snorkeling, and boogie boarding, even surfing lessons.

Also you might investigate the Princeville, ( NORTH SHORE ) but I hear it is getting a bit worn, and is being taken over and will be remodling ,and still costs lots of bags of shells.

Plenty of good restaraunts in the south shore area. No worries there.

You can always drive up to the Tahiti beautiful north shore, and explore all of that wonderous area.

Well, that is from ACTUAL EXPERIENCE, and of course just passing on my opinion, which may or may not work in with what you all really and truely enjoy doing.

Denny

The Kauai Grand Hyatt fits the bill - fantastic spa! Of course with user name like yours I%26#39;m also thinking a Windajammer barefoot cruise might fit the bill.

Nice run down by Denny on options.

Try Kauai

For sure we prefer Kauai to Oahu and Maui, though Big Isle runs close second. Then we really enjoyed USVI and Charlotte Amalie and surrounds, still bewlow Kauai though

We go in Oct for 4th time

I would not suggest Princeville in February. You will want to be in warm Poipu, not windy, rainy Princeville. Kauai and Oahu can get some nasty weather along their northernmost regions in the winter/spring. Maui%26#39;s north end can be less wonderful then, too.

February is a great time to visit Big Island, if that interests you. IMO The Four Seasons there is the best resort in Hawaii. There is also Kona Village Resort (almost ';next door'; to 4-S) if you can live without TV and A/C. The luau there is wonderful. Now, Big Island doesn not have oodles of beaches like the other, older islands, if that%26#39;s a concern.

Would you like to try 4-S on Lanai?
