What is Poipu like in mid-March?

I understand that depending upon the time of year, swimming possibilities vary. What is Poipu like in mid-March, particularly at the Hyatt? Thanks for any help offered.

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

Well I work at the Grand Hyatt here on the South Shore in the Po%26#39;ipu Beach Area and in March our weather is kinda winter - kinda spring -- which means that you are likely to get some pretty strong tradewinds and some passing showers -- but that is not hard and fast -- this last March was dry, dry, dry! Altho%26#39; our trades were up.

At the Hyatt, swimming possibilities are fine as long as you use one of their many pools -- the beach that fronts the hotel is not a swimmable beach (unless you are an expert bodyboarder or surfer)...you%26#39;d need to drive about 5 minutes to Po%26#39;ipu Beach Park for a swimmable beach. There you have all the facilities, showers, bathrooms, lifeguards, etc.

Janet, has given you great info on Shipwreck Beach which fronts the Hyatt.

Even tho the beach is pretty much non swimable, if you are a guest of the Hyatt, you will have access to fabulous water activities, with lagoons, pools, and water slides.

Honestly, when we walk back past the Hyatt, after hiking along the cliffs , those lagoons really look inviting. But, as non guests we just pass it up.

We do however, go over to the Hyatt for their hula show on the Terrace, or up to Stevensons Library for jazz and suhsi, and went to Doneros for Valentines dinner with friends.

Next week we will be going for the first time to Yum Cha, which is at the Poipu Bay Golf Course next to the Hyatt. Will let the board know what it is like. Seems to get good reviews.

Can you walk to the swimmable beach from the hotel, or is it better to drive? Also, how is snorkeling from that beach? Thanks for your helpl

No, you can%26#39;t walk to Po%26#39;ipu Beach Park from the Hyatt (or you could, but it is probably about 2 miles on a narrow shoulder of a busy road!) -- but it is a short drive!

Sorry, I forgot your other question!

Snorkeling is good at Po%26#39;ipu Beach Park -- many folks have their snorkeling gear and are out in the water around the park area.
