WIll be in Oahu for a few days. I have been to Waimea Bay - wonderful place to swim and beautiful. What other beaches do people love? I have heard (and read) that Lanakai (spelling?) and Kailua are very nice (I wonder if I have the names right)- but know some friends who got stung by jelly fish there. Is that unusual?
Looking primarily for a beautiful swimming beach.
Mahalo
best beaches
I would definately recommend Kailua/Lanikai as one of the best beaches in Hawaii. The summer months are known for bringing in portuguese man-o-war jellyfish on occasion, but they will normally post warnings if this is the case. I have to believe your friend%26#39;s case was more bad luck than anything.
Check out these beaches too:
Sunset Beach (North Shore)
Mokule%26#39;ia Beach (North Shore)
Makapu%26#39;u (Windward)
Sandy Beach (Leeward)
Makua %26amp; Yokohama Beach (Wai%26#39;anae coast)
best beaches
The Travel Channel has their top ten beaches annually and Kailua/Lanikai are almost always in the top 5 often one or the other is #1.
Ala Moana Beach Park
Waimanalo Bay Recreation Area
Right next to Waimanalo Bay Recreation Area is Bellows Beach which is open to the public Friday - Sunday.
Kailua Beach
Kualoa Regional Park is nice
Sunset Beach %26amp; Waimea Beach on the North Shore
Besides those listed, I%26#39;ll add Makaha beach park on the West side before Makua and Yokohama. I think it%26#39;s the prettiest beach on Oahu. Check with the lifeguard about currents if there%26#39;s surf. On a calm day it%26#39;s really nice swimming.
Another really nice one for swimming on the north windward side is Malaekahana beach part near Laie.
Any more favorites we%26#39;ve left out?
Thank you for all of these wonderful suggestions - I would be happy just going from beach to beach around the island! It will be a hard choice, but we hope to at least get to several of these during our stay.
Thanks!
