Maui May 24-30 trip report

This board was so helpful that I felt I should contribute some of my own experiences and impressions. There is definitely too much to see and do in Maui in a short time period. We always say we are just going to lie around on the beach somewhere and then are off and driving everywhere to see what we can see. We did the same on Maui. It was our first trip. I will just list highlights and impressions;

Stayed at the Wailea Marriott-very nice and friendly. Good snokeling right off the beach to the right. Saw 4 turtles our first day full day there. Did the luau there as well. The food was just okay, but we really enjoyed the show and the setting. We did pay for the premium seating and felt it was worth it.

Snorkeled Molokini and Turtletown. Molokini was great even if there were too many people there and many first time snorkelers. I wasn%26#39;t impressed with Turtletown.

Took the Paragon trip to Lanai. Best snorkeling our entire trip and spoiled us for anything else. Great beach at Lanai. Great service on the boat.

Went to see the show Ulalena in Lahaina and were very entertained and impressed.

We did eat at Mama%26#39;s, and it is just as good as everyone said.

Snorkeled Honaloua after Lanai trip, so we just found it to be so-so. I think the snorkeling is always a subjective issue depending on the weather and what you are expecting.

We did not drive the road to Hana. If we ever do that we will stay a night or more in Hana. We did however drive the west end of the island, and loved every minute of it. Our next favorite thing after the Paragon trip.

Overall we enjoyed Maui very much. Very friendly people everywhere. You can spend what you want to. I wish we had relaxed a little more, but we will do that if we return. I think Maui may be a little too organized for our tastes, but it is definitely beautiful.

If you found Maui a little too organized you might consider Kaua`i next time. Very rural, small towns, nice beaches, magnificent scenery. There are some ';organized'; things to do - helicopter tour, boat tours and rides, zipline and other outdoor activities. Lots of great hiking. IMHO, the friendliest island.

If you want relaxed and quiet, try Molokai.

We went there a few years ago. I was OK for about 3-4 days, but my other half loved the quiet... At that time, no elevators or stop lights at all on the island.

Beautiful place and people, but waaaaay laid back......

Thanks jaleha for the report. BTW, on that trip how much time did you have to snorkel in Lanai? I went on my own once and found it AWESOME...as a place to visit...and not a snorkel trip....just wondering what you thought!
